When it comes to selecting a couch that doubles as a bed, there are several options. The most common sofa beds are the ones that fold out from the bottom of the couch. Those have a metal frame, come in single, double, and sizes, and can be very comfortable. The comfort level does depend on the quality and thickness of the mattress. The traditional sofa bed is available in several colors, styles, and materials. There are a few drawbacks to this type of sofa bed. First, bedding and pillows have to be stored in a separate place. Other furniture, such as the coffee table, ottomans, and chairs have to be moved out of the way to make space for the bed. Sofa beds of this type are extremely heavy, so they cannot be easily moved from place to place.
Futons are an option which take up less space when laid out flat. The mattress is thinner, the frame is not as sturdy, and they are not as comfortable as traditional sofa beds. They also are not the most comfortable couches either. A third option is a corner sofa bed. Like fold out sofa beds, they are available in different sizes, colors, styles, and materials. The advantage of corner sofa beds is that they do not have to be folded out. No other furniture has to be moved out of the way, and the back cushions just have to be removed. Placing a sheet on the surface, and adding some pillows, is all that is required for sleeping. It is quick, convenient, and comfortable.
Many styles of corner sofas, whether they have the dual function of a bed or not, are available with hidden storage. Pillows, bedding, or anything else can be hidden away until needed. The corner can be placed either on the right or left side to accommodate the living room space and lay out. Sectionals can be one piece, or as many as five pieces, depending on the size and style preference of the customer. This type of sofa bed is ideal for studio apartments, college dormitory rooms, small living rooms, and can even be used in a den or finished basement. Deluxe models can become the focal point of a large living room, or easily convert an extra family room into a guest room with little to no time and effort.
